AFIF Events Calendar

Everyone is invited to attend each of the following AFIF member events (AFIF founders Lily & Tim plan to attend and hope to see you there!):


Event 1:

Disco party - 70's, 80's, Motown and more!

Saturday, 4 September

COME AND BOOGIE ON DOWN WITH US!
We are delighted to announce a disco evening, featuring music from the Seventies, Eighties, Motown, and also some more recent gems!

When: Saturday, 4 September 2010 from 9.30pm
Where: Lago dei Pioppi di San Donato in Collina, Loc. Le Corti. Rignano sull'Arno
(see DIRECTIONS below and also at www.lagodeipioppi.com).

Entrance charge is €5,00 and includes the first drink. All drinks after the first will cost €3,00 each. As we are organising it ourselves, we invite you to help us out by contributing an extra € 1,00 per head to cover SIAE (recording rights) costs. (There'll be a collection point next to the DJ console).

Please forward this message to anyone you think might be interested, and also, although it is not compulsory, please confirm if you are coming.

DIRECTIONS : from Bagno a Ripoli make for San Donato in Collina. Go through the village, and then at the first junction (after the a few bends), turn left towards Le Corti and Rignano sull'Arno. Shortly after the turning on the left for Villa Gaudia, there will be another on the left to Fattoria Moriano/ VIA DI MORIANO, and turn down there. The Lago is c. 250 m along the road on the right. Park wherever you can - also in the field on your left.

 


Event 2:

Join Us in the Hills of Chianti for a Wine Tasting and Medieval Festival

When: Sunday, September 5, 2010 / 4-6pm

Where: I Selvatici Winery, Montevarchi (Arezzo)

Member Barbara Singer and third generation winemaker Giuseppe Sala invite you their winery for a tasting this Sunday. Giuseppe makes a super Tuscan, 94 rating by Wine Spectator, Chianti Reserva, Malvasia (white) and Vin Santo (98 rating). His family is well known for the Vin Santo. Enjoy an afternoon, walking the family grounds, strolling through the vineyards, visiting the cellars and private chapel.

 

In the evening, we invite you to stay on in Montevarchi and enjoy our fall medieval festival. The whole town turns out for medievel game of "Ball in the Well" and food booths with traditional Tuscan specialties. Costumes and all. There are also carnival rides and games in the park. You can walk to everything from the train station.


Drive from Florence:
Take A-1 to Valdarno exit. Follow signs to Montevarchi, then to Giaole, then to Calriglia. Just after you go under the big sign that says you are leaving Montevarchi, we are the next street on the left. Marked with a sign.Follow the windy road to the top of the hill. 40 minutes total. 7 minutes for highway exit. call 338-103-6238, if needed.

Train: 37 minutes from Florence
Trains leave every hour, on the :13 minutes after the hour and leave from Montevarchi to SMN every hour on the :09. The cost is 4.20 euros each way.
The winery is 5 minutes from the train. There are taxis or we can drive you. Call in advance to arrange: 338-103-6382.

Event 3:

"A Book With A View" Reading Group meets Tuesday, September 7 2010

We are a friendly and informal group of people who like to read and discuss books. You are invited to join us!

This weeks discussion: Reading in the Dark by Seamus Deane.
New members are welcome to attend even if they have yet to read this book.

Where: Beaded Lily Glassworks, Via Toscanella, 33r (1 block west of Palazzo Pitti, right near Piazza della Passera in the Oltrarno)
